Patricia
Iyer, MSN, RN, LNCC, earned her Bachelor of Science
in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing from University of
Pennsylvania. She has earned the certification of Legal Nurse
Consultant Certified. Patricia served for five years on the Board
of Directors of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants,
including one year as the President from 2002-2003. Additionally
she was the first chair of the Educational Steering Committee
(for a term of two years) and received the distinguished Lifetime
Achievement Service Award from AALNC in 2005. Patricia has
edited or coauthored numerous books for nurses and attorneys,
including Medical Legal Aspects
of Pain and Suffering, Nursing
Home Litigation: Investigation and Case Preparation,
Nursing Malpractice,
and Nursing Documentation:
A Nursing Process Approach. Patricia is president of
Med League Support Services, Inc., a legal nurse consulting company
in Flemington, NJ which was established in 1989. She has taught
hundreds of attorneys and paralegals about medical records and
medical legal topics, and thousands of nurses about nursing documentation
and risk management.

Editors
Marguerite
Barbacci, RNC, BSN, MPH, LNCC received a Bachelors of
Science in Nursing from The University of Akron and a Masters
of Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public
Health. Her clinical career has included maternal-infant nursing,
in which she is certified. She did clinical research for eight
years prior to making the transition to Legal Nurse Consulting.
Ms. Barbacci’s research focus was infectious diseases, with
a specialty in sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS. Ms. Barbacci
has been an LNC since 1991. She has worked in-house for both plaintiff
and defense firms and as an independent LNC for 2 years, consulting
on Medicare fraud, medical malpractice, products liability and
personal injury cases for both plaintiff and defense. For the
past seven years, Ms. Barbacci has been a staff LNC at a legal
nurse consulting firm, working primarily on the defense of products
liability cases. Ms. Barbacci has been a member of American Association
of Legal Nurse Consultants since 1991 and was among the first
group of LNCs to achieve certification in 1998. She served on
the national conference program committee and the national board
of directors as a Director at Large. As a founding member of the
Greater Baltimore Area Chapter of AALNC, she served in the offices
of director at large, secretary and president.
Deborah
Dlugose, RN, CCRN, CRNA is President of Wright Professional
Associates, Inc. She blends a quarter-century of clinical expertise
with her background in communications. She is nationally recognized
as a speaker, writer and editor in nurse-anesthesia, critical-care
nursing, and legal nurse consultant practice. Ms. Dlugose was
an associate editor for the first edition as well. She maintains
an active clinical practice in nurse-anesthesia along with her
commitments to nursing education and literature.
Betty
Joos, Med, BSN, RN received her Bachelors of Science
in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia and her Masters
in Education with a minor in nursing from the University of Florida.
Her nursing career includes pulmonary and emergency clinical areas
as well as a college nursing educator. Her specialty career in
legal nurse consulting began at a law firm in the late 80’s
continued to independent practice in the early 90's. In the ensuing
years, she maintained her independent practice, consulted with
schools and universities in setting up LNC programs, taught legal
nurse consulting, and co-authored Marketing for the Legal Nurse
Consultant. Ms. Joos served on the national board of AALNC in
1991-2 and was on the editorial board of the AALNC newsletter,
Network, and the Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting from 1991 until
1998. She has served as President of the Atlanta AALNC Chapter
and remains active with that group. Her current practice focuses
on defense of medical malpractice and personal injury cases.
Barbara
J. Levin RN, BSN, LNCC of Hingham, Massachusetts is an
independent legal nurse consultant. She obtained her Bachelors
of Science in Nursing from Boston University School of Nursing.
In addition to being an associate editor, she coauthored chapter
27 - Alternative Dispute Resolution - Settlement, Arbitration,
Mediation. Ms. Levin works at Massachusetts General Hospital in
the orthopaedic/trauma unit. Currently, she has implemented an
inservice program for the department, which will focus on clinical
diagnosis and treatment. Ms. Levin's clinical expertise includes
orthopaedics, trauma, and medical surgical. Her clinical experiences
also include medical and cardiac intensive care units, telemetry
and spinal cord injury. She has testified at deposition, trial
and court mediations/arbitrations as an expert and fact witness.
In addition, she is currently participating on the Malpractice
Tribunals in the State of Massachusetts. Ms. Levin has served
as a Director at Large for the American Association of Legal Nurse
Consultants and is Past President of the Rhode Island Chapter
of AALNC. She also served as the 2000 Conference Chair for the
AALNC National Conference, Boulder, Colorado. Speaking engagements
have included various organizations such as the National Association
of Orthopaedic Nurses, American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants,
Bar Associations and Nursing Programs.
Joan
K. Magnusson, BSN, RN, LNCC is a nurse consultant with
the law firm of McMillen, Reinhart and Voght, P.A., in Orlando,
FL, practicing primarily in the areas of medical malpractice and
personal injury for the past 15 years. Joan received her diploma
in nursing from Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and
her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Florida Southern College,
graduating summa cum laude. Her clinical background includes experience
in perioperative nursing; staff development and nursing education;
and infection control and epidemiology. She is licensed in Florida
as a Health Care Risk Manager. She is on the adjunct faculty of
University of Central Florida, Department of Continuing Education.
She is a charter member of the American Association of Legal Nurse
Consultants (AALNC) since 1990. She served on the national board
of directors for five years including serving as the AALNC President
in 1995-96. She is also the founding president of the Greater
Orlando Chapter , and continues participate in chapter activities.
Joan was the primary author of the Standards of Practice and Professional
Performance for Legal Nurse Consultants. She served as the first
chairperson of the American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification
Board (ALNCCB), 1997-2000.
Ann
M. Peterson, Ed D, MSN, RN, CS, LNCC, president of Ann
M. Peterson & Associates, received a diploma in nursing from
Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelors of Arts in
Psychology, a Masters of Science in Nursing, and a Doctorate in
Higher Education Administration. Dr. Peterson is an experienced
certified legal nurse consultant working with both defense and
plaintiff attorneys on medical malpractice, nursing negligence,
personal injury and criminal cases. She has a background in healthcare
administration and advanced clinical practice, has held an academic
appointment as an assistant professor on the graduate level, and
has multiple publications to her credit. She is a current member
of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC)
and the past president of the Rhode Island Chapter of AALNC. Dr.
Peterson has also served on the Massachusetts Nurses Association
(MNA) Congress on Nursing Practice and Blue Ribbon Commission
on Health Policy and Legislation, and is a panel member of the
Massachusetts Medical Malpractice Tribunal.
Nancy
Wilson-Soga RN MS has maintained an independent legal
nurse consulting practice since 1990. Her specialty focuses in
the area of alternative dispute resolution as well as personal
injury and mental health issues. She was trained by the NY State
Office of Court Administration in conflict resolution and is a
mediator both in private sector and court appointed. She also
served on the Commission of Quality Care for the state of NY as
a Surrogate Decision Making panel member. Ms Wilson-Soga is an
adjunct faculty member at 3 colleges teaching in the legal studies
and psychology departments. She received her Bachelors in Science
from Cameron University in Oklahoma, majoring in psychology, and
her Masters in Science in Clinical Counseling from Long Island
University, and has been practicing nursing for over 16 years.
She is a charter member of the Morristown NJ Chapter of AALNC
holding executive board position of secretary, director-at-large
and was president for the 2002 year. Ms Wilson-Soga also volunteers
as a mental health counselor to assist those unable to ascertain
care due to financial hardships, as well as provided assistance
in crisis management to rescue/relief workers during the tragedy
of Sept. 11, 2001.
Mona
Yudkoff MPH RN CCRN CCM has been the owner of Mona Yudkoff
Rehab Consultants since 1989. The company offers private case
management services for catastrophically injured clients and provides
life care plans for both plaintiff and defense law firms. She
has authored chapters on life care planning in two textbooks and
is a frequent lecturer on aspects of life care planning at national
professional meetings. Ms. Yudkoff was a founding member of the
Philadelphia Chapter of AALNC and served as the treasurer and
president of that chapter. She has a Bachelors of Science in Nursing
from the University of Pennsylvania, an Masters in Public Health
from Hebrew University in Jerusalem and is certified as a rehabilitation
nurse (CRRN), case manager (CCM) and life care planner (CLCP).
Ms Yudkoff serves as a consultant at Children’s Seashore
House, a pediatric rehabilitation hospital and Bancroft NeuroHealth,
a residential facility for persons with brain inured and developmental
delay.
